Description

What kind of wine it is

Molin Lugana Superiore is a white wine produced by Ca Maiol, a true expression of the Trebbiano di Lugana grape variety. It appears a bright straw yellow in the glass, revealing on the nose aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit, kiwi and lavender, enriched by notes of mint and mulberry flowers. On the palate, it displays freshness and concentration, supported by a pronounced savouriness. The sip finishes dynamically, recalling crisp fruit and a refined toasted spiciness. It is ideal paired with lake fish dishes, raw foods such as sushi and soft cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the area south of Lake Garda, specifically Desenzano del Garda, in Lombardy. The vines, old vineyards over forty years of age, sink their roots into a calcareous and clayey soil particularly rich in mineral salts. This soil composition, together with the temperature-regulating effect of the lake climate, ensures optimal and gradual ripening of the grapes. The bond between land and microclimate gives the wine a marked savoury and mineral character, resulting in an organoleptic profile deeply connected to the Lugana territory.

How it is produced

The production process begins with manual harvesting and subsequent cooling of part of the grapes in cold storage. After gentle pressing, vinification takes place in steel tanks through cold maceration at low temperature, leaving the must in contact with the skins for over forty-eight hours. Ageing continues on fine lees; a small portion of the wine ferments and matures in small used oak barrels. The process concludes with a period of rest in the bottle, essential for stabilising the aromas and achieving perfect flavour harmony.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1967, Ca Maiol combines tradition and innovation in the heart of Lake Garda. The Molin Lugana Superiore DOP takes its name from the historic vineyard adjacent to the estate, characterised by old vines over forty years old that sink their roots into an exceptional clay terroir. Under the expert guidance of oenologist Loris Vazzoler, this Lombard excellence comes to life in a modern underground cellar. The result is a multi-award-winning white wine, able to express with profound elegance the authentic winemaking vocation of this fascinating region.

The Azienda Agricola Cà Maiol, today a balanced combination of history and modernity, was established at the end of the 1960s.

Starting with a single farmhouse, over the decades it has expanded both in terms of structures and vineyards, thus expanding a unique offer for the denomination. We are in the Lugana area, a harmony of flavours and atmospheres that extends south of Lake Garda over a unique territory.

The calcareous soil, the result of a millennial process, and the typical lake climate contribute to making this an ideal place for growing vines. It is here that delicate white wines with an unmistakable freshness are born, wines that are genuine expressions of the territory in which they are born.
