Description
What kind of wine it is
Col d’Orcia Rosso di Montalcino is a still organic red wine that expresses the authenticity of the Tuscan region. Made from Sangiovese grapes, it faithfully represents the prestigious Rosso di Montalcino area. Its intense ruby colour, enriched with violet highlights, introduces a broad and complex bouquet where notes of cherry and black cherry stand out, complemented by hints of wood and spices. On the palate, it is structured yet smooth, supported by pleasantly mature tannins and a long, fruity finish, making it ideal for pairing with meats and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This red originates from the Sant’Angelo hill, within the Montalcino wine-growing area. The vineyards, favoured by a dry Mediterranean climate, are situated at around two hundred and fifty metres above sea level with excellent southern exposure. The roots delve into calcareous and siliceous soils on slopes facing Monte Amiata, conditions that ensure regular ripening and give the Sangiovese remarkable flavour tension. The Col d’Orcia estate boasts centuries-old origins and still maintains a deep agricultural and territorial identity today.
How it is produced
Production follows a strict organic approach that guarantees complete traceability at every stage. The process begins with fermentation on the skins for about ten to twelve days in special low, wide steel tanks. Constant temperature control allows for gentle extraction of colour and aromas. Afterwards, the wine matures for nine months in fine Slavonian oak barrels, a crucial step in defining its aromatic precision. A final ageing completes the production cycle, delivering a sip true to the purity of the fruit.
History and Curiosities
Founded in the 17th century, the Col d’Orcia estate is located in Montalcino on the Sant’Angelo hill. Its vineyards grow at an altitude of 250 metres, facing south towards the slopes of Monte Amiata, an ancient extinct volcano. Under the expert guidance of Antonino Tranchida, the winery follows a strict organic and sustainable approach, ensuring complete traceability of every stage of production. Thanks to the use of specific steel tanks, wide and shallow, the vinification process allows for a gentle extraction, enhancing the purity and elegance of this prestigious wine.
