The not-too-distant goal is for 100 hectares of vineyard. Ferruccio Diana’s winemaking enterprise is divided into two parts with its centre of production at Su Leunaxi, near the town of Settimo San Pietro. This is where in the 1990’s the first vines were planted, and the winemaking cellar, which has recently been enlarged and modernized, was built. The business grew, and after some time new vineyards were planted in the area of Sibiola, near the town of Serdiana - a stone’s throw away from the main site.
"Il vino di qualità nasce in vigna" (Good quality wine is born in the vineyard), as Ferruccio Deiana always says. Special attention was given to soil preparation, and the varietals to be planted were chosen with great care. Deiana selected cultivars suitable to the soil profiles at the different sites. The particular microclimate and aspect of these terroirs (this small corner of Sardinia being slightly undulating), permitted a planting density of 2.3 per 1 with Guyot and spurred cordon training systems. All the vineyards are irrigated with fixed drip systems, and numerous olive trees were planted along the internal roads of the winery, in accordance with Sardinian tradition.
The winery is particularly modern, allowing the use of the latest methods to turn grapes into wine at the optimal point of ripeness, and all stages of fermentation, ageing and fining are carefully and steadily monitored through regular analysis in the winery’s highly-equipped laboratory. Ferruccio benefits from the skill and dedication of his wife Mariagrazia Perra and their son Dario in this important production.
