Description

What kind of wine it is

Cantina Tramin Lagrein Rosso is a still red wine produced in Termeno by Cantina Tramin. Belonging to the Alto Adige denomination, it is made exclusively from Lagrein grapes. To the eye, it displays a hue ranging from ruby red to deep garnet, opening up with aromas of violet, blackberry and cherry, enriched by delicate herbal nuances. On the palate, it offers a full and velvety sip, with clear notes of ripe cherry, raspberry, bitter cocoa and liquorice. The pronounced tannic structure blends with spicy tones, leading the tasting towards a long and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Termeno, in Alto Adige, where the vineyards thrive in a typical Alpine environment. The vines benefit from significant temperature variations, with days warmed by the sun and nights cooled by mountain breezes. The soils have a rich composition of clay, limestone, gravel, sand and porphyry. This complexity of the soil and the unique climate give the wine a robust structure, ensuring a measured freshness that balances the austere character of the grape variety and enhances its notes of dark fruit and spices.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with meticulous manual harvesting of the bunches, followed by destemming. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and concrete vats, encouraging malolactic fermentation. Maturation continues for at least six months, resting partly in concrete vats and partly in classic oak barrels. This ageing process smooths the tannic texture, preserves the clarity of the aromas and delivers a harmonious flavour profile.

History and Curiosities

The Lagrein Rosso 2024 from Cantina Tramin is an authentic Alto Adige DOC that tells the story of the passion of 160 families united since 1898. The grapes, meticulously hand-picked, release an enveloping bouquet of violet, blackberry and cherry, with elegant herbal notes. On the palate, it reveals itself as velvety, enriched by hints of bitter cocoa and liquorice. Thanks to a maturation of at least six months in oak and cement, the wine acquires a pronounced tannic structure and a persistent finish, ideal for accompanying flavourful dishes based on game and mature cheeses.

In a time of hardship for Alto Adige’s wine producers, Christian Schrott, parish priest of Tramin and later Member of the Austrian Parliament, founded our cooperative in 1898 in order to protect the livelihood and future of the wine producers from this mountain area. Thanks to the strength of this union, Cantina Tramin has become one of Alto Adige’s most respected cooperatives and an example recognized all over the world.

Today, we are 160 families tending approximately 270 hectares of vineyards. We pride ourselves on the fact that each bottle is the quintessence of our philosophy of life and work: accuracy, commitment, trust and creativity.
