Description
What kind of wine it is
Tasca d’Almerita Cabernet Sauvignon is a still, structured red wine, a clear expression of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the heart of Sicily. Its sensory profile opens with an intense ruby colour with deep garnet highlights. On the palate, it offers an elegant and balanced sip, characterised by a pleasant concentration of ripe fruit that develops with great fullness. The flavour profile is enriched by spicy and balsamic notes that provide breadth and remarkable longevity.
Where it comes from
This wine is born in the historic Tenuta Regaleali, in the province of Palermo. The vines take root in the San Francesco vineyard, situated at about five hundred and fifty metres above sea level. The ideal south-west exposure ensures a slow and regular ripening, essential for aromatic complexity. The soil is characterised by a deep, clay-rich earth, crossed by a fine calcareous matrix. This distinctive terroir imparts a solid structure and perfect flavour definition over time.
How it is produced
Between the end of September and the first days of October, the grapes are harvested to begin fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The process takes place at a controlled temperature for twenty days, encouraging optimal extraction of pigments and aromas. Maturation continues for eighteen months in new French oak barrels from the forests of Allier and Tronçais, concluding with a measured period of bottle ageing. The bouquet blends notes of wild berries, vanilla and black pepper, enlivened by hints of mint and sage.
History and Curiosities
In 1984, Count Lucio Tasca's vision transformed Vigna San Francesco into a pioneering site, welcoming the first international grape varieties to Sicily. From this bold intuition was born a pure Cabernet Sauvignon, a faithful and extraordinary expression of the Regaleali Estate. The 2012 vintage, enhanced by 18 months of ageing in new French oak barriques, offers an elegant, concentrated sip with remarkable longevity. Celebrated with a 94/100 by James Suckling, this label captivates the most discerning palates.

The Tasca family is internationally recognized for its pioneering role in modern Sicilian winemaking. Since 2001, Tasca d’Almerita has pursued a project focused on enhancing native grape varieties in the island’s most vocated territories. Alongside Regaleali—the historic estate spanning approximately 500 hectares—new estates have been added: Capofaro on the island of Salina, Tascante on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, Whitaker on the island of Mozia, and Sallier de La Tour in the Monreale DOC.
In 2019, Tasca d’Almerita was named "European Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast magazine. In 2021, it became one of only 24 wineries worldwide to be awarded the prestigious "Green Emblem" for sustainability by Robert Parker – Wine Advocate. Since March 2023, already a Benefit Corporation, it has earned the esteemed international B Corp certification, joining a select group of companies committed to the highest standards of social and environmental sustainability. In 2025, Tasca d’Almerita received the "Historic Brand" recognition and was officially registered in the Special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
