Description

Sette Ponti Oreno is the Tuscan wine proclaimed the best wine in Italy by the international judges of The Wine Sider during the Best Italian Wine Awards 2017. It is a wine that embodies the concentration of all the aromas of the Italian climate. It is fascinating and captivating with its intense structure, the flagship of the winery that produces it. It is a wine for occasions, to be treasured for years awaiting a great special event. However, for the Italian wine market, it was not an instant love affair. Before establishing itself in our country, it first had to make its way to international tables, where it achieved extraordinary success. Sette Ponti Oreno is the first wine produced by entrepreneur Antonio Moretti Curseri, a blend of Blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot grape varieties. The Sette Ponti Estate, once owned by the House of Savoy, is crossed by the Oreno stream, which gives the wine its name, and is immersed in the greenery of the Tuscan countryside. Organic farming is the approach applied to the vineyards, which are managed by professional agronomists whose mission is to create wines of the highest quality, starting with the rows and their care. Every phase of the vineyard's vegetative and production cycle is carefully monitored to ensure flawless development. All this attention is encouraged above all by the privileged position and the composition of the vineyard's soil, which allows for the production, unique in the world, of wines of rare elegance, structure, aptitude for aging and fruity aromas.

The Sette Ponti Estate is located in the heart of Chianti, in a picturesque corner of Tuscany, not far from Arezzo. The estate has belonged to the Moretti family since the 1950s, when architect Alberto Moretti, attracted to the area by its rich hunting grounds and the game found there (fallow deer, wild boar, pheasants, hares and even yellow deer), purchased the first 50 hectares directly from Princess Margherita and Princess Maria Cristina of Savoy of Aosta, daughters of Duke Amedeo of Aosta. In their turn, the two princesses had bought the property from Grand Duke Leopold of Habsburg, to whom we owe the birth of the 'Vigna di Pallino' in the late 1800s.

The oldest vineyard dates back to 1935 and has always been called the 'Vineyard of the Empire'. The vineyard was planted by His Royal Highness Duke Amedeo d'Aosta, Vice-King of Ethiopia, and so named to commemorate the victory in the African War and the birth of the Italian Colonial Empire with the conquest of Abyssinia. To this end, the Duke commissioned his uncle, His Royal Highness Count Emanuele Filiberto of Turin, General Designate of the Army and General of the Cavalry, to supervise the work to complete the vineyard as quickly as possible. The work proceeded not without difficulty due to a 30% difference in height that forced the land to be filled in and subsequently terraced, which is still visible today and was completed in 1939.
