Description
What kind of wine it is
Etna Rosso Contrada Feudo di Mezzo is an organic Sicilian red wine by Planeta. Made from a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, it expresses the authentic volcanic character of the region. On the nose, it reveals lively fruity notes of black cherry and wild strawberry, intertwined with hints of wild rose and oriental spices. On the palate, it is fleshy and smooth, offering a soft texture and great freshness which, combined with deep savouriness and the typical ferrous note, make it ideal for enhancing traditional Sicilian dishes, roasts, cheeses and cured meats.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the vineyards of Castiglione di Sicilia, situated at 610 metres above sea level. The roots delve into black volcanic sands, rich in minerals and surrounded by dense woods and more recent lava flows. This unique soil gives the wine a distinct territorial identity. The vineyard management follows the principles of organic farming, using wild flora to nourish the land. The optimal exposure and constant respect for the ecosystem allow the harvest of grapes that faithfully reflect the volcanic territory.
How it is produced
The process begins with manual harvesting and refrigeration of the grapes. After destemming and crushing, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in wooden barrels and steel tanks, with gentle pumping over and manual punching down. Maceration on the skins encourages precise extraction of aromatic components. This is followed by racking with a vertical press and ageing in wooden barrels and steel, which smooths the tannic structure. This maturation ensures perfect structural balance, preserving the natural vibrancy of the fruit.
