Description

Core is a red wine IGT Campania, from pure Aglianico grapes (100%). It is produced in Sannio, in the province of Benevento, and bottled at the Azienda Agricola Montevetrano. The provenance of the grapes was long evaluated and researched, finally finding the ideal place in the Sannio area: mature vineyards, dedicated to the cultivation of Aglianico where the volcanic nature of the soil with the presence of tuff, volcanic ash and limestone allows these grapes to express themselves with the highest quality. A wine followed with the passion and knowledge that distinguishes it, by oenologist Riccardo Cotarella who, as with Montevetrano, has realised another of Silvia Imparato's intuitions: wanting to represent a typical local wine with the same quality as Montevetrano. We chose an indigenous grape variety, the pure Aglianico, which for us represents the archetypal wine; the one that Silvia Imparato's grandparents used to let her taste when she was a child; Core was released to celebrate Montevetrano's 20th anniversary. It has a round, warm name: Core means love in dialect and centre, essence, in English. A wine of harmony and Heart.

Starts in the mid 80s, with a group of friends who love wine and has the desire to experiment. It was 1983, and among them there were Silvia Imparato and Riccardo Cotarella. After six years, there is the first bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon 90% and Aglianico 10%, the first vintage of a wine that will adopt the same name of the castle: Montevetrano. An extraordinary success, that still continues today.

Today Montevetrano is a 26 hectares estate about 5 of these are vineyards), in the Monti Picentini Regional Park, in southern Italy. The vineyards are in San Cipriano Picentino, in a former Bourbons’ estate at 100 meters above sea level, on the crest of a hill among oaks, chestnuts, hazelnut trees, citrus grove and olive trees, by the shadow of an ancient medieval castle. The boundaries are marked by blackberry bushes and old roses introduce to the rows in the "Horse vineyard", near the ‘700 country house.
