Description

What kind of wine is it

The Krettnacker Echariusberg Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben from Hofgut Falkenstein is an elegant, semi-aromatic still white wine. Made from Riesling grapes, it displays a straw yellow hue and an intense bouquet of fruity aromas. On the palate, it stands out for its precise style, enhanced by a residual sweetness that makes it smooth and capable of evolving beautifully over the years. The sip is characterised by a lively minerality and a pleasant persistence, making it ideal for pairing with light dishes.

Where does it come from

This German expression originates from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region, a prime area for cultivating Riesling grapes. The roots of the vines delve into the Krettnacker Echariusberg vineyard, distinguished by the presence of old vines, which guarantee superior aromatic concentration. Hofgut Falkenstein works these lands to create interpretations that enhance the natural profile of the grape variety. The winery's approach offers an authentic portrait of German Riesling, able to tell its origin with great fidelity.

How is it produced

The winery adopts organic and sustainable production practices to care for its Riesling grapes. The aim is to preserve the semi-aromatic character of the variety, creating a Kabinett in which the natural delicate sweetness integrates perfectly with the typical freshness of the grape. The production processes are designed to extract the maximum territorial expressiveness, maintaining the aromatic profile intact and an excellent taste balance. This careful approach delivers a mineral tension that ensures an inviting final persistence.

History and Curiosities

Born from the historic old vines of Krettnacher Euchariusberg, this Riesling from Hofgut Falkenstein embodies the authentic tradition of the Moselle-Saar-Ruwer region. Erich and Johannes Weber cultivate the grapes following the principles of strict organic production, creating an elegant white wine with a low alcohol content. The delicate sweetness of the residual sugar blends harmoniously with an enchanting mineral freshness: a true masterpiece that celebrates the German terroir, offering a long and persistent sip.

From this winery
Erich Weber of Hofgut Falkenstein makes ultra-traditional, dry-tasting Saar Rieslings. He likes to call himself "Winzer Weber." (Winzer is German for winegrower.) In other words, the emphasis is on the work in his vineyards, where he spends most of his days. With his tan and rugged face, he looks the part, too. Since his middle son, Johannes, has joined him full-time, there has been more of a focus on Rieslings with residual sugar. In recent years, their wines have also caught the attention of critics, both in and outside Germany. Read more
