The Geiben winery embodies the most authentic and rigorous essence of Mosel viticulture, where family history intertwines with a winemaking tradition dating back to 1721 in Thörnich, in the heart of the Middle Mosel, extending with equal prestige into the nearby tributary valley of the Ruwer through the historic Karlsmühle estate.
The defining hallmark of this estate lies in its uncompromising interpretation of heroic viticulture, centered on the estate's signature parcel, the renowned Thörnicher Ritsch. It is one of the steepest, most spectacular, and finest crus in the entire region, a south-facing natural amphitheater where dizzying slopes require meticulous, entirely manual care of every individual vine. In this parcel, the vines take root in pure slate, a schistose rock capable of absorbing solar heat during the day to release it during cooler nights, ensuring optimal drainage while imparting an unmistakable mineral imprint to the grapes.
