From this winery
The Gagliardi Company, founded in the 1950s by Gino Gagliardi, stands on the hills of Matelica, in the province of Macerata. Gagliardi has always represented a historic brand for Matelica wine and in particular for Verdicchio.

Today the winemaking tradition continues with Umberto and Lara, the sons of the founder. Umberto is a wine technician, he is in charge of production and is president of the Verdicchio Matelica Producers Committee; Lara, on the other hand, is involved in administration and in the sales point at the winery.
Production takes place only with owned grapes; this is made up of 70% of the famous Verdicchio di Matelica, flanked by a small quantity of Sangiovese, Merlot and Ciliegiolo red grapes.
Furthermore, the company produces a small production of "natural wine" matured in clay amphorae (both Verdicchio and Sangiovese).
The wines are produced in full respect of the territory and of the consumer, limiting the use of sulphites and pointing to the recognizability of the vine.

Our vineyards have a total area of ??11 hectares, of which 7.5 are cultivated in Verdicchio (the plants date back to the 60s, 2000-2001 and 2016 respectively), one hectare and a half to Merlot (plant from 2000-2001 ), one hectare and a half to Sangiovese (plant of 2002) and half a hectare to Ciliegiolo (plant of the 70s).

The vineyards are located in 3 different areas of Matelica and are characterized by two different types of soil: the medium-textured one tending to loose and the clay-loamy one. The vines of Verdicchio, Merlot and Ciliegiolo are planted in the first; in the latter the remaining part of the Verdicchio and Sangiovese vines is planted.

Our type of cultivation is low environmental impact, very close to organic as we do not use either systemic products against vine diseases or soil herbicides. The cultivation methods of the vine are simple and double Guyot for Verdicchio and Ciliegiolo, while for Merlot and Sangiovese we use the spurred cordon.

All the processes starting from pruning to harvesting are done strictly by hand. As regards the collection in particular, it is made with selection of the bunches both on boxes and on trolleys.
