Description
What kind of wine it is
Franz Gojer's Lagrein Granat is a still red wine that elegantly expresses the character of South Tyrol. In the glass, it displays a deep dark violet hue, introducing clear aromas of blackberries, chocolate and delicate spicy notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and fleshy, driven by firm, warm tannins, balanced by a pleasant acidity. Its harmonious profile is the result of a careful blend of Lagrein grapes from two different vineyards: the first brings strength and structure, while the second adds remarkable finesse and complexity.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the areas of Ora and Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. In Ora, the soil is stony and alluvial, formed by the Adige river and very rich in porphyry. In the Bolzano area, the alluvial soils of the Isarco predominate, resting on a solid porphyritic subsoil. This complex geology gives the wine great aromatic intensity and reinforces its pronounced tannic texture. Franz Gojer tends these plots with the aim of enhancing the authentic identity of this native grape variety.
How it is produced
The harvest is carried out by hand to carefully select the best bunches. The must undergoes controlled fermentation in large oak barrels with a light toasting. The process continues with a reduction in acidity and further ageing in large wooden barrels, which consolidates its body and ensures an estimated longevity of between five and ten years. Decanting for about an hour and serving at a temperature of 14-16 °C is recommended. At the table, it is best enjoyed paired with braised meats and game, and also perfectly complements cheeses and pork-based dishes.
History and Curiosities
The Lagrein Granat 2024 by Franz Gojer is an authentic expression of the Alto Adige DOC, originating from historic vineyards located between Ora and Bolzano on alluvial soils rich in porphyry. This excellent wine is born from the union of two terroirs: the first imparts extraordinary strength and structure, while the second bestows elegant complexity. The grapes, harvested by hand, undergo controlled fermentation in large, lightly toasted oak barrels. The subsequent maturation in wood softens its acidity, ensuring a long-lasting evolution and perfect harmony.
