Description
The Sabbie dell'Etna Bianco D.O.C. is one of the signature wines of the Firriato house. This Etna Bianco D.O.C. is a blend of the two most significant varieties of the Etna area of Sicily: Carricante and Catarratto. The grapes used ripen slowly, as they are subject to unique climatic conditions for Sicily. The vineyards are located on the northern slope of Etna, near the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, in the province of Catania, at an altitude of approximately 600 meters. The Etna Bianco D.O.C. vines are grown on volcanic soil, sandy and with a marked minerality. The vines are trained using the spurred cordon system with two buds. Furthermore, the soil is particularly young and rich in magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. The grapes are harvested during the first ten days of October. The grapes for Le Sabbie dell'Etna Bianco D.O.C. undergo a soft pressing process at a controlled temperature. This is followed by maturation on fine lees in steel barrels, which are agitated daily, for a period of three months. The wine is then bottle-aged for two months. The result is a wine with highly aromatic aromas and a lingering flavor on the palate.
