Description

What kind of wine it is

Langhe Chardonnay Educato is a white wine from Piedmont by Elio Grasso, made from Chardonnay grapes in the heart of the Langhe. Characterised by a straw yellow colour, it reveals aromas of white fruit, citrus and delicate herbal notes. On the palate, the Chardonnay offers a distinct mineral freshness combined with an enveloping softness, making it excellent for pairing with lean fish and shellfish.

Where it comes from

This wine is produced in Monforte d’Alba from vineyards facing south-east and east. The thirty-year-old vines are trained using the modified Casarsa system. The calcareous soil tending towards sandy imparts a clear savoury sensation, while the altitude between four hundred and four hundred and fifty metres supports a regular ripening, thus ensuring a fresh and extremely elegant style.

How it is produced

The manual harvest takes place in the first ten days of September. Fermentation and ageing are divided between stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, combining aromatic precision with great structure. This process blends the liveliness of the fruit with a deep texture. The final resting period is completed between May and June, stabilising the balance and expressive continuity.

History and Curiosities

Langhe Chardonnay Educato originates in Monforte d’Alba from vines around thirty years old, cultivated at an altitude of 400 metres on calcareous soils tending towards sandy. The manual harvest at the beginning of September ensures excellent grapes, capable of expressing true Piedmontese elegance. The winemaking process skilfully combines the use of steel with the nobility of French oak barriques. This harmonious balance imparts mineral freshness and aromas of citrus and white fruit, finishing the tasting with a memorable enveloping softness.

The vineyards owned by the Grasso family are the estate’s greatest assets. The area where they are located has always been considered outstanding wine country, as is demonstrated by the inclusion of our holdings in the map of the finest vineyards drawn up by the great historian, Lorenzo Fantini, in the early 20th century.

In the early 1980s we decided to go back to our origins as grape growers, well aware that our work did not stop at the end of the row of vines. We had no illusions that we were inventing anything: we merely wanted to comply with the best in the traditions and work of our predecessors, without any preconceived ideas. The first logical consequence was the decision, from 1978, to vinify and bottle separately grapes from our various vineyards.
