Description

What kind of wine it is

Tancredi by Donnafugata is a still red wine, an expression of the Terre Siciliane area. Created from a careful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d’Avola and Tannat, vinified in steel and matured in oak barrels, it displays an intense ruby colour. On the nose, it offers aromas of plum and blueberry, combined with delicate hints of red rose, liquorice, nutmeg and white pepper, finishing with sweet notes of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate, it delivers a full and enveloping sip, supported by densely textured and fine tannins, ensuring a long and elegant finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from south-western Sicily, specifically from the hills of the Contessa Entellina estate. The vineyards are grown on trellises between two hundred and four hundred metres above sea level, where the vines sink their roots into loamy-clay soils rich in minerals and limestone. The climate is characterised by mild winters and dry, constantly breezy summers. The significant temperature variations between day and night favour optimal ripening, defining the structure and perfect taste balance of the wine.

How it is produced

The manual harvest involves a careful selection of the bunches. In the winery, a state-of-the-art destemmer allows imperfect berries to be discarded on a vibrating table. Vinification continues with fermentation in steel and a fourteen-day maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature. The maturation takes place for over a year in French oak barrels, enriching the aromatic profile. This is followed by an essential maturation in bottle of at least fourteen months, fundamental for consolidating the overall harmony before release to the market.
