Description
What kind of wine it is
La Sombrilla by Bodegas El Paraguas is a still white wine that captures the essence of the Ribeiro region in Galicia. This blend combines the Treixadura and Albariño varieties, presenting itself in the glass with a pale straw yellow colour and greenish highlights. The bouquet offers fragrant notes of white fruit such as pear, floral aromas of mimosa, and subtle boisé nuances. On the palate, it is structured, with a fresh and fruity style that evolves into a long and persistent finish. It is ideal for pairing with seafood dishes, shellfish, sushi, and soft cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Ribadavia, within the Ribeiro area. The La Viña de Eladio vineyard forms a natural amphitheatre at the confluence of the Avia and Miño rivers, where the vines thrive on sandy soils with a granite base, a key feature for ensuring pronounced clarity of flavour. The area benefits from a mild Atlantic climate with slight continental influences, favourable for the harmonious development of the grapes. These geological and climatic elements define a distinctive Atlantic character, faithfully reflecting the authentic Galician winemaking spirit.
How it is produced
Production involves separate vinification before the final blending. Part of the must ferments and rests in stainless steel tanks in contact with the fine lees, maintaining high tension and varietal purity. The other portion undergoes careful ageing on the lees in French oak barrels, developing greater structure and a finely tuned aromatic profile. By combining these two processes, a balanced and harmonious blend is achieved, appreciated for its ability to offer a structured, complete, and excellently persistent sip.
History and Curiosities
This wine from the DO Ribeiro is born from the passion of Marcial Pita and Felicísimo Pereira. The grapes ripen at La Viña de Eladio, a natural amphitheatre nestled between the Avia and Miño rivers. The vines, rooted in granitic and sandy soils, impart a truly Atlantic character to the glass. The vintage was awarded 93 points by Robert Parker, a prestigious accolade that confirms its charm and high collectable value.

From the union of talent, passion and bond with this land (Marcial is originally from
Ferrol) the Bodegas El Paraguas project was born. Vineyard and cellar are both located in the municipality of Ribadavia, by most considered the cradle of choice of this small DO and I'm a big fan of it. La Cabrita is the name of the property's vineyard plot that extends over an area of 1.25 hectares, at altitudes between 80 and 225 meters above sea level. The Soil composition is sandy matrix over a granite substrate.
Geographically speaking we are at the confluence of two rivers, the Rio Avia il Miño, in a point where the influence of the Atlantic is "mitigated" by the continental influence and vice versa. Soil and climate conditions that give a unique typicality to the wines of this territory, in this case conceived following a style as traditional as possible but at the same time modern, thanks to the implementation of small technological devices in the winemaking phase. A guarantee of naturalness of the products and respect for the identity of the terroir in the cellar, as well as the ex-garage of Felicisimo, spontaneous fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts.
