Description

What kind of wine is it

The Champagne Rive Gauche Extra Brut by Bérèche is a Blanc de Noirs made from Meunier grapes. On the nose, it reveals fragrant aromas of citrus peel and pear, harmoniously combined with notes of pastry and toasted almonds. On the palate, it is fleshy and incisive, enlivened by a fine perlage and a distinctly saline finish that leaves the sip dry. This Traditional Method stands out for its elegant and structured profile.

Where does it come from

This Champagne originates along the left bank of the Marne Valley, in the commune of Mareuil-le-Port. The grapes come from the Maisoncelle and Côte aux Chataîgniers plots, characterised by the presence of old vines over fifty years old. The age of the plants gives density to the fruit, while the deep soils composed of clay, limestone and sand ensure freshness, tension and a fine savoury finish. The Bérèche winery tends these lands with great care to achieve a limited production.

How is it produced

Vinification begins with a slow fermentation in barrels, which imparts structure and precision. The Traditional Method continues with a long ageing on the lees for thirty-six months and the prise de mousse under cork, a process that enriches the aromatic complexity and refines the bubbles. The absence of residual sugars defines an Extra Brut profile that is essential and vertical. At the table, the savoury finish perfectly enhances shellfish, sushi, fried fish, cured meats and cheeses.

History and Curiosities

The historic Bérêche & Fils maison, active since 1847, signs this rare expression from the left bank of the Marne Valley. Produced from old vines of 52 years cultivated in Mareuil-le-Port, this refined Blanc de Noirs is born from a slow fermentation in barrique and a meticulous ageing of 36 months on the lees. An exceptional vintage AOC, offered in a precious limited edition of 2,851 bottles, which elevates the art of the Traditional Method, awarded 93 points by the prestigious Vinous critics.

The 5th generation has been in place since 2004. The last 10 years have been dedicated to several key factors: the transmission of expertise, the quality of work and the continuity of the style of the House. We respect our soil and our vineyards to the highest point. We want to hand them down intact for future generations. We pay attention to every detail of our work in order to excel in precision, tradition and respect for life to serve our wines.

Every action has been adequately thought out. Of course our land is plowed and we also use weed control to limit disease. This vegetation cover avoids herbicides, insecticides and anti-rots. Everything begins with the soil. The fertilization is organic. We feed wildlife which in turn feeds flora and thus the soil is working. As a result the House Bérêche has one of the lowest treatment frequency index in the Champagne region. It is also among the first to be certified High Environmental Quality (level 3).
