On the Colli Orientali del Friuli, from the province of Udine on the border with Slovenia, come breezes that cool and dry the vineyards, but not the cold North winds which are stopped by the Pre-alpi Giulie.
Here the soils are rich in marl and sandstone, a mix called locally "ponca", characteristic for their poor fertility and therefore very suitable for the cultivation of vines that would otherwise be too productive, with particular advantages for the concentration of sugars and aromas in the grapes. In this context, the Fantinel family acquired the winery from Mario Paron that would become La Roncaia. It was 1988 and the initial idea was to place the bottles produced on the local market.
Following the first successes, the gaze shifted first to the national market and then to the International market. Today, La Roncaia is a company producing 60,000 bottles a year, wines of reliable and valuable quality, a perfect synthesis of the wonderful nature of the Colli Orientali.
Tenuta Sant'Helena di Fantinel and the La Roncaia winery won Gold Medals at the prestigious Merano Wine Hunter competition with Venko 2014 and Eclisse 2021, respectively, and will also be present at the next edition of the Festival with a double dedicated space.
