Amarone, Veneto's oenological jewel, rises from a fascinating story and begins by chance, with an error during the vinification of the sweet raisin wine Recioto. A bottle "escaped" from the fermentation stop and turned into a "bitterRecioto", lacking the expected sweetness. Back in 1936, Adelino Lucchese, oenologist at the Cantina Sociale della Valpolicella, discovered this forgotten wine and labelled it "Amarone".

In 1938, the first bottles hit the market. It was not until 1953 that Amarone became a considered choice, gaining national and international success. This red wine, born from a whim of fate, established itself as one of Italy's most prestigious reds, fuelling its fame vintage after vintage.

The Rigour of the Amarone Wine Production Regulations

The Production Regulations for Amarone red wine, approved in 1968 together with the recognition of DOC Valpolicella, set strict rules and high quality standards. In 2010, a new regulation consecrated its independent designation.

Amarone is produced exclusively from the typical red grapes of Valpolicella, with Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Corvinone and other red grapes such as Molinara. The production area, limited to Valpolicella, can boast the mention 'Classico' for some sub-areas.
