Description
What kind of wine it is
SoloSole by Poggio al Tesoro is a Tuscan white wine made from Vermentino grapes that fully reflects the sunny character of Bolgheri. Its intense aromas intertwine notes of peach, citrus and aromatic herbs, heralding a distinctly Mediterranean and inviting profile. On the palate, it stands out for its dry and crisp sip, supported by pronounced savouriness and a pleasant mineral streak. Its medium body envelops the mouth, offering generous fruit, before finishing with a long and lively finish. It is ideal paired with raw seafood and vegetarian dishes.
Where it comes from
This Vermentino originates in the heart of Castagneto Carducci, within the Le Sondraie vineyard. The vines, trained using the Guyot method, benefit from a west-facing exposure just a few metres above sea level, capturing the full sunlight. The deep soil has a complex composition of sands, gravels and clays, characterised by the presence of magnesium and iron. These pedoclimatic features enhance the grapes' aromas and give the wine its marked Mediterranean character, while also ensuring volume, persistence and excellent ageing potential.
How it is produced
The grapes are harvested by hand, both during the day and at night, to ensure careful selection of the bunches. In the winery, gentle pressing of the whole cooled grapes precedes a delicate pre-fermentation maceration on the skins. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with no malolactic fermentation, to preserve its natural freshness. Ageing continues for several months on the fine lees through the practice of bâtonnage, enriching the wine's texture before the final resting period.
History and Curiosities
Born in Bolgheri from the passion of a family dedicated to excellence since 2001, SoloSole is the expression of a rare Vermentino of Corsican origin. The grapes, hand-picked, grow in the prestigious Le Sondraie vineyard at an altitude of 25 metres, where their roots sink into deep soils composed of sand, gravel and clay, similar to those of the Bordeaux region. The prolonged exposure to sunlight enhances the intensity of the aromas and flavours, elegantly preserved thanks to maturation in steel on fine lees. A Mediterranean wine celebrated by international critics.
