2021 lazio wines

Lazio has a mild and constant climate, mainly volcanic soils whose hills were already famous at the time of the Romans. Production in 2009 was about 1.527.000 hl, concentrated for about 1/3 in the area of the Castelli Romani, especially from white grapes, which cover more than 75% of the vineyard, in particular malvasia (30%) and trebbiani (30%), in addition to the autochthonous bellone (5%). The origin of the populous family of trebbiani is lost in the mists of time; formerly Pliny wrote of grapes and trebulanum wine, in Tuscany and in Lazio. The equally large family of Malvasias has Greek origins; its name derives from Monemvasia, a city from which the Venetians imported the vine, first on the island of Crete, then Candia, their estate from 1202, then in Italy. Even in a lower percentage, black-berry vines are cultivated as cherry, Montepulciano, merlot, cabernet, syrah, barbera and cesanese and Affile from which the only DOCG of the Cesanese del Piglio DOCG region is made. Also here are the international red berry vines to give some of the best results. Finally you can remember some particular productions, the Aleatico of Gradoli, good passito red and the white Est! East!! East!!! Di Montefiascone and Frascati.
