Vitovska is a white grape variety spread in the province of Trieste and neighboring Slovenia (in the territories that formed the province of Trieste before World War II). Its name has Slovenian origins, presumably coming from the village of Vitolje. |
| Ampelographische Merkmale |
Leaf: pentagonal, large in size, quinquelobata; Dark green coloration, with no anthocyanin pigmentation on ribs; Presence of generalized depressions between the ribs and strong bollosità of the leaf flap, which is presented with a discreetly twisted profile; Flat tooth, medium length and homogeneous in relation to the length; U-shaped partial breast, without significant peculiarities; Side lateral upper U, with slightly overlapping lobes; Presence of abundant tomentosity, consisting of almost exclusively lying hair, present on both the ribs of the bottom side of the flap; No hair along the ribs of the top page.
Bunch: large, pyramidal, winged, compact and about 20 cm long; Short peduncle, scarcely visible, moderately lignified.
Acino: medium thickness, not uniform, slightly elongated, spherical and circular section; Uniform green peel, medium-pronged; Persistent navel; Juicy and colorless flesh; Neutral flavor without peculiarities; Short, hard separation pedicel. |
| Sortencharakteristische Merkmale |
The wine has a straw yellow color, sometimes with golden reflections, especially when choosing wood refinement. Many producers prefer to propose Vitovska without clarifying or filtering, leaving the wine obscured by the antique charm of a slight opacity. According to the case, it expresses the delicate aromas of wildflowers, hay, pear Williams, citrus fruits and sage, which blend with a decidedly smell of flint. In the mouth, the sharpness of the freshness opens to salty, sapid and mineral notes, to close with slightly almond-like hints. A wine that, thanks to good acidity, is also very long, with features that in some cases can even bring it closer to the Rhine Riesling. |
