Description

What kind of wine it is

Les Crêtes Pinot Noir is a still red wine from the Valle d’Aosta Protected Designation of Origin, with a pronounced mountain character. Made from Pinot Noir grapes and vinified in steel, it stands out for its dynamic style and refined structure. On the palate, it offers a fruity and savoury profile, enriched by a light spicy note and velvety tannins, with a persistent, mineral finish that enhances the essence of the grape variety.

Where it comes from

The vineyards are located in the picturesque landscapes of La Tour, in the municipality of Aymavilles. Here, the roots delve into morainic and sandy soils, situated on steep, south-facing slopes at around 650 metres above sea level, in a context of true heroic viticulture. The alpine climate, with its harsh winters and marked temperature variations, is essential for giving the wine extraordinary expressive freshness and a clear mineral texture.

How it is produced

The production process begins in mid-October with a careful manual harvest. After destemming, the grapes undergo cryomaceration and ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with frequent punching down. Ageing takes place mainly in steel, although the maturation process may include a period in French oak barrels, before the final rest in the bottle. The result is a wine that releases intense aromas of morello cherry and violet, accompanied by elegant hints of green pepper.

History and Curiosities

Les Crêtes preserves the ancient heritage of the Charrère family, rooted in the Aosta Valley since 1750 and dedicated for six generations to respecting the environment. This renowned Pinot Noir is born on the steep slopes of the Tour d’Aymavilles, a pure expression of heroic high-altitude viticulture. The artisanal dedication is reflected in the meticulous manual harvest in October and in a limited production, whose first vintage dates back to 1995. The result is an elegant mountain wine, awarded prestigious international accolades by authoritative names such as Wine Spectator and Robert Parker.
