Description
What kind of wine it is
Jean Fournier's Bourgogne Côte d’Or Rouge is a still red wine that embodies the identity of Burgundy. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, it presents a full profile on the palate with a pronounced fruitiness, balanced by a remarkable structural depth linked to its region of origin. This wine is full-bodied and satisfying, with a clean flavour profile that expresses great harmony. An enveloping red, ideal for pairing with meat dishes, poultry, roasts or flavourful selections of mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This Pinot Noir originates in the heart of Burgundy, within the renowned Côte d’Or area. The vines take root in composite soils, dominated by Bresse marl and gravelly formations. These specific geological features give the wine its typical expressive richness and a perfect balance between freshness and structure. The deep dedication of the Fournier family, rooted in the Marsannay area since the seventeenth century, ensures complete fidelity to the original terroir.
How it is produced
The process begins in the vineyard with a rigorous manual harvest in small crates, aimed at preserving the integrity of the fruit before careful selection. Vinification involves the use of whole bunches, worked with gentle punching down and pumping over for precise and measured extraction. Fermentation occurs spontaneously thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place in used barrels and concludes with a period in stainless steel tanks to stabilise the wine.
History and Curiosities
Rooted in Marsannay since the 17th century, the Fournier family expresses the soul of the Côte d’Or in this elegant Pinot Noir. Produced on soils rich in Bresse marl and gravel, the wine is born from manual harvesting and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, which involves the use of 25% whole bunch grapes. The skilful vinification enhances its fruity character and structural depth. The 12-month ageing in used barrels, followed by a period of rest in steel, gives rise to an enveloping red that pairs wonderfully with red meats, roasts and cheeses.
