Description

Still red, 13.5% ABV, produced by J. Hofstatter, a renowned winery in Trentino-Alto Adige. Pinot Noir Vigna Herbsthofl, 2022 vintage. A wine that embodies the excellence of Pinot Noir, grown in vineyards of glacial origin. Vinification follows the traditional method, with fermentation in cement, a year in barrique, and another year in large barrels before continuing to age in bottle. Initially a bit closed on the nose, it opens up revealing aromas of black cherry and raspberry, enriched by a delicate note of vanilla and spice. Dark ruby color. On the palate, it displays excellent harmony with elegant acidity, well-integrated sweet tannins, and a tremendous concentration of aromas.

The wisdom of generations. The drive to continuously create something new together. Our family winery’s story stretches back to the 19th century. Anticipating the future, just like Paolo Foradori. He once coins the term "Vigna" – marking the dawn of single-vineyard classification in Alto Adige. Pioneering spirit is deeply ingrained in our family heritage. Today, it is led by Martin and Beatrix Foradori Hofstätter, supported by the next generation: Niklas and Emma.

We uphold the highest standards every single day. In the vineyard, this means nurturing our vines through gentle pruning and the use of cover crops to enhance their strength. In the wine cellar, innovation meets tradition, as we age our wines in both classic wooden barrels and modern concrete vats. Cutting-edge cellar technology also plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of our wines.

Story The Barthenau Vigna Herbsthöfl Pinot Nero is made exclusively from grapes of the vineyard of the same name, the result of a mass selection from the Vigna Roccolo, the oldest Pinot Nero vineyard in South Tyrol (trained on the pergola and planted in 1942). The Herbsthöfl Vineyard lies on limestone-sandy soils of glacial origin, at an altitude of between 430 and 460 metres, in the northernmost part of the famous Mazon plateau where our winery has contributed to writing the history of South Tyrolean Pinot Noir. Thanks to its special terroir, the Barthenau Vigna Herbsthöfl Pinot Noir is characterised by finesse and unique varietal characteristics.
Soil composition Glacial origin, calcareous-sandy.
Wine making The vinification process is the same as for our other Pinot Noirs from a single vineyard in Mazon: fermentation in cement, one year in barrique and another year in large barrels before further ageing in the bottle.
