Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Cannubi by Fratelli Borgogno is a still red wine with controlled and guaranteed designation of origin produced in Piedmont. In the glass, it displays a bright garnet red colour. On the nose, it reveals fruity and earthy notes, while on the palate it offers a fresh and savoury sip with enveloping and harmonious tannins and an exceptionally long finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the historic Cannubi area, located in the municipality of Barolo. The vines are traditionally Guyot-trained, grown between two hundred and sixty and three hundred metres above sea level, benefiting from south, south-west and south-east exposures that ensure full ripening of the bunches. The soils, composed of fine sand and limestone, are the result of the rare geological meeting between the Tortonian and Elvezian slopes. This unique matrix gives the wine its characteristic savoury imprint and a defined tannic structure.
How it is produced
Production begins in October with a rigorous manual harvest. This is followed by a prolonged cap maceration for about forty days in wooden vats, accompanied by frequent pump-overs aimed at extracting colour and structure. Malolactic fermentation starts spontaneously in steel to best preserve the aromatic balance. The wine then rests for about thirty months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a crucial six-month bottle ageing after summer bottling.

At the time of his death, he left the family house and cellar to Lodovico Borgogno. In that house, Lodovico Borgogno passed on to his sons Serio and Battista the art of wine-making and the deep love for his land. When he died, Serio and Battista Borgogno inherited some land and a small farmhouse in Cannubi.
With foresight, Serio & Battista Borgogno managed to turn their dream into reality: building their house and their winery on top of Cannubi, buying more vineyards all around for a total of 3 ha, in the heart of Cannubi. They were able to grasp the great potential of a place that is now worldwide known and that is considered one of the best cru in Barolo. Read more
