Description

What kind of wine it is

The Franciacorta CruPerdu Extra Brut by Castello Bonomi is an organic white wine from Lombardy, created from a meticulous blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Produced using the Traditional Method, it stands out for its aromatic profile of white-fleshed fruit and tropical notes that evolve into balsamic sensations. On the palate, it is enveloping, characterised by a dry finish consistent with its dosage. The sip offers marked acidity, excellent structure, and a fine, persistent perlage.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Lombardy, in the Franciacorta region, from vineyards located on the slopes of Monte Orfano. This specific geographical area imparts a pronounced mineral character to the grapes, ensuring a solid balance between savouriness and freshness. The agronomic management, based on high planting density and low yields, promotes maximum aromatic concentration. It is a limited production, designed to enhance the terroir and accompany structured seafood dishes.

How it is produced

The process begins in August with manual harvesting, followed by gentle pressing to ensure a pure extraction of the musts. The Pinot Noir matures in steel, while the Chardonnay ferments and ages in barrels, and both base wines benefit from frequent bâtonnage. The prise de mousse follows the rules of the Traditional Method, requiring a long ageing on the lees of around seventy-two months. This technical process, completed by a period of rest in glass, gives the wine remarkable longevity.

History and Curiosities

Produced on Monte Orfano exclusively in the most memorable vintages, the CruPerdu Grande Annata Extra Brut 2019 from Castello Bonomi embodies excellence. The cool spring favoured the perfect ripening of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, ensuring ideal acidity. The meticulous approach, characterised by yields below 55%, guarantees the purest extraction of the musts. The monumental 72-month ageing on the lees imparts to the glass an extraordinary complexity and rare longevity, elevating this precious organic sparkling wine to a true masterpiece.

The name Franciacorta has its roots in the Middle Ages, when these lands were entrusted to small communities of Benedictine monks, exempted (francae) by taxes (curtes), so that they were reclaimed and cultivated.

Here the first wine was born, in the 13th century, four hundred years before that in Champagne. A land of abbeys and priories, this moraine area bounded by Monte Orfano, Monte Alto and the hills of Lake Iseo, knows had its first major development in wine production in the second half of 800, when the historian Gabriele Rosa defined it as a land of "excellent black and white wines". Castello Bonomi lies on the slopes of Monte Orfano, a jewel in a marvelous casket, the only Chateau of Franciacorta. The Castello Bonomi estate takes its name from the original Art Nouveau building designed by architect Antonio Tagliaferri at the end of 800.

The rennovation of the historic cellars combined with the creation of new underground spaces has provided the Castello Bonomi estate with cellars that total an area of more than 1500 square meters.

The annual production of the company is about 150 thousand bottles: 100 thousand of Franciacorta CruPerdu, Satèn, Rosé, Millesimato, Cuvée Lucrezia and Lucrezia Etichetta Nera, Cuvée del Laureato; the rest divided between the Curtefranca: Solicano, Conte Foscari and Cordelio.
