Description
Still red from Tuscany, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, 14.5% ABV, produced by Castelgiocondo - Frescobaldi. 100% Sangiovese, 0.75L bottle, 2020 vintage. A Brunello made from a historic estate, built in 1100, that represents the excellence of Tuscany. Fruity notes predominate on the nose, ranging from raspberry to currant, with faint hints of blueberry; the elegant floral note that emerges after a few moments is tangy and surprising: unmistakable hints of violet. As it opens, the spicy and tertiary notes due to its long aging unfold. Cinnamon, pepper, and leather intertwine, and on the finish, a balsamic note reminds us of its extreme elegance. On the palate, it envelops completely and impresses with its harmony, dense tannins, and minerality. The finish is long and persistent.

The village of Castelgiocondo dominates from above the historic Frescobaldi estate in Montalcino, an ancient stronghold built in 1100 to defend the road from the sea to Siena. The property is one of the first four from which the production of Brunello di Montalcino began in 1800.
The historical importance of the estate is testified by the knight figure shown on Castelgiocondo wine labels, taken from a famous fresco by the Sienese painter Simone Martini. The artist painted Guidoriccio da Fogliano, commander of Siena's troops, who led the attack on the castle of Montemassi. A historical coincidence that saw the Frescobaldi family begin their centuries-long adventure in the world of wine at the same time as the knight's exploits. Read more
