Description

What kind of wine it is

Langhe Freisa by Bartolo Mascarello is a red wine from Piedmont made from Freisa grapes. As part of the Langhe Freisa category, it expresses a fresh, pleasant and well-defined style. In the glass, it reveals a ruby red colour, introducing clear aromas of forest fruits intertwined with refined balsamic notes. The long ageing in wood allows for a balanced sip, while preserving the natural elegance of the grape variety.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the renowned Langhe area in Piedmont, thanks to the work of Bartolo Mascarello, a historic name based in Barolo. The family-run estate manages its own vineyards by applying strict natural cultivation principles. The various plots, which include parcels in historic areas such as Cannubi, Ruè, San Lorenzo and Rocche dell’Annunziata, are carefully tended to provide an authentic portrait of the region.

How it is produced

The vinification of Freisa involves prolonged maceration to extract colour and structure. Maturation in large oak barrels encourages an evolution that ensures its longevity over time. It is recommended to decant for one hour before serving at an ideal temperature between 16 and 18°C. Its elegant texture pairs perfectly with first courses with meat sauces, braised meats, game and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

The Langhe Freisa 2020 by Bartolo Mascarello embodies the true tradition of the Langhe. Founded in 1918, this historic family winery makes the most of its five hectares, including the renowned Cannubi and Rocche dell’Annunziata crus, through meticulous natural cultivation. Led by Maria Teresa Mascarello and Alessandro Bovio, the estate enhances the grapes with long macerations and careful ageing in large oak barrels. True to its history, the estate produces labels without territorial fragmentation.

The company was founded in 1918 when Giulio Mascarello decided to set up his own company, leaving the Cantina Sociale and buying various vineyards in extremely suitable areas.

In the 60s he took the reins of his son Bartolo, who with passion, professionalism and personality made a decisive turning point in production, remaining far from the French fashions. The historic and legendary cellar is now managed by the daughter of Bartolo, Maria Teresa Mascarello.

The company that represents Langarola tradition par excellence is located in the center of Barolo, where the cru Cannubi, Ruè and San Lorenzo, together with the Rocche dell'Annunziata in the municipality of La Morra, are cultivated in a natural way, vinified with long macerations and wise aging in large oak barrels and then bottled with a single label without indulging in the production of separate labels for each vineyard.
