Vial Magneres
Located on Clos Saint André (which akwardly didn't give the name of the estate) in Banyuls-sur-Mer, Domaine Vial-Magnères is a family wine estate of 10 hectares overhanging the Mediterranean sea. The winery was built in the 1960's by Gaby Vial, the stepfather of Bernard Sapéras, who also received the estate from his stepfather André Magnères, thus the name of the domaine. Former manager of an agro-food analysis laboratory, Bernard arrived in 1985 at Domaine Vial-Magnères and started assisting Gaby in the winemaking. It could have been an explosive situation but Bernard had some serious knowledge about winemaking (got a oenology degree in 1975) and he slowly started making wines, full of modesty and kindness. Bernard notably used a loophole in the law and made the first white Banyuls wine. For a couple of years now, he has started transmitting the estate to Chrystel, his son's wife, that will carry on taking great care of the domaine and probably bring improvements as he once did.
