Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo La Serra Marcarini is a Piedmontese red wine with controlled and guaranteed designation of origin, offering a clear profile and a pure expression of Barolo. In the glass, it displays a garnet red colour enriched with ruby highlights and a delicate orange hue. The aromatic profile is ethereal and profound, characterised by floral notes of violet and rose, accompanied by liquorice and sweet spices. On the palate, it reveals a savoury and harmonious structure, maintaining excellent balance thanks to perfectly balanced tannins.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the historic cru La Serra, located in the municipality of La Morra. The vineyards stretch at an altitude of 380 metres above sea level, benefiting from a privileged south and south-west exposure. This positioning favours ideal grape ripening, defining a character of great elegance. The calcareous and clayey soil, rich in mineral salts and magnesium, combined with a constant gentle breeze, gives the wine its typical and refined taste profile.

How it is produced

The production process relies on established techniques to best manage the delicate stages of fermentation and maturation. During the harvest, a careful selection of the grapes is carried out, a fundamental step to preserve the integrity of the final product. The journey in the cellar helps to shape a balanced profile, where the clarity of the aromas blends with a measured tannic texture. To fully appreciate the bouquet's opening, it is recommended to decant for about an hour before serving.

History and Curiosities

Often described as the other soul of Barolo Marcarini, La Serra DOCG 2021 originates from the historic area of La Morra bearing the same name. Compared to the Brunate cru, it ripens later, offering an ethereal aromatic profile of rare elegance, enriched with notes of violet and liquorice. As an additional historical curiosity, since 2015 a rigorous selection of grapes has been introduced during the harvest to further enhance the quality of this historic cru.

To better understand Marcarini Winery, one must look beyond its most contemporary aspects such as its modern vineyard and vinification equipment or a growing international market: one must examine its history and traditions. Today, as yesterday, Anna Marcarini Bava, with the collaboration of her daughter Luisa and son-in-law Manuel Marchetti, manage the family vineyards with passion, producing wine according to the most rigorous Piedmont and in particular Langhe tradition. This is the Marcarini Winery: its proprietors, vineyards, wine cellars, wines and history. A history made by intelligent choices and hard work, by technique and intuition, lived far away from the spotlight: a history for a passionate few, for friends who yearn for things made well and with heart. At La Morra, where the vine has since time immemorial dominated over other cultivations, the winemaker’s ancient spirit is revived daily, with the noble goal of capturing quality perfection in each of his wines.
