Description

What kind of wine is it

Krettnacker Echariusberg Riesling Kabinett is a still semi-aromatic white wine of great precision. Produced in Germany from Riesling grapes, it stands out for its brilliant straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. On the nose, it reveals crisp fruity notes reminiscent of green apple, accompanied by lively citrus nuances. On the palate, it is fresh and juicy, defined by a well-judged balance between sweetness and acidity. The structure offers a smooth drinkability, finishing with a pleasant and clear persistence that invites another sip.

Where does it come from

This expression of Riesling originates in the evocative region of Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, a legendary area for outstanding viticulture. The wine comes from the renowned Krettnacker Echariusberg vineyard, located in the Saar valley, where the soil and climate conditions enhance the freshness and minerality typical of the grape variety. The Hofgut Falkenstein winery interprets these grapes by highlighting the identity of the terroir. The area gives the aromatic profile a distinctive linearity of flavour, enriched by a pronounced mineral sensation that attests to the profound German winemaking vocation.

How is it produced

Hofgut Falkenstein adopts an approach based on rigorous vineyard work to obtain grapes with exceptional aromatic ripeness. The vinification aims to preserve a perceptible residual sugar, typical of the Kabinett style, balancing it with the natural acidic tension of the fruit. This careful process ensures a remarkable ageing potential estimated between 5 and 10 years. Awarded a score of 96/100 by Robert Parker and ideally served at 10-12 °C, it proves extremely versatile at the table: it enhances seafood dishes and smoked fish, and elegantly accompanies white meats and refined cheese selections.

From this winery
Erich Weber of Hofgut Falkenstein makes ultra-traditional, dry-tasting Saar Rieslings. He likes to call himself "Winzer Weber." (Winzer is German for winegrower.) In other words, the emphasis is on the work in his vineyards, where he spends most of his days. With his tan and rugged face, he looks the part, too. Since his middle son, Johannes, has joined him full-time, there has been more of a focus on Rieslings with residual sugar. In recent years, their wines have also caught the attention of critics, both in and outside Germany. Read more
