Description
What kind of wine it is
Gorgo SUMMA Custoza Superiore from the Gorgo winery is an organic white wine from Veneto with the Custoza Superiore designation, produced from Garganega, Bianca Fernanda, Trebbiano, Trebbianello and Riesling grapes vinified in steel, characterised by an expressive and complex style. On the nose, it offers a layered aromatic profile with notes of ripe pear, yellow apple and citrus, enriched by orange blossom, fine herbs and a hint of almond. On the palate, it is structured and harmonious, supported by a lively acidity that brings freshness to the sip and finishes with a long, mineral aftertaste. It is the ideal pairing for Mediterranean cuisine, perfect for accompanying dishes based on shellfish, fish, white meats and risottos.
Where it comes from
This elegant blend originates in Veneto, in the heart of the Custoza Superiore area. The selected grapes come from historic vineyards aged between fifty and sixty years, cultivated using Guyot and spur cordon methods. This viticultural heritage ensures raw material capable of giving great depth to the wine. The blend masterfully combines Garganega, Bianca Fernanda, Trebbiano, Trebbianello and Riesling, capturing the territorial identity of the area. The result is a white wine of Mediterranean elegance, able to balance the fruit's fleshiness with the natural savouriness of the soil.
How it is produced
Production begins with a late harvest, carried out strictly by hand during the first weeks of October. To fully enhance the connection with the land, the grapes are vinified together through cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then undergoes a long period on the fine lees, a crucial step to give depth and complexity to the sensory profile. The entire maturation phase takes place in steel to preserve the original aromatic integrity, before the harmonious final evolution in the bottle.
History and Curiosities
The name “Summa” literally means “the highest part” and represents, for the Gorgo winery, the culmination of its experience in enhancing the value of the local area. A particularly fascinating aspect is the origin of the grapes, which come from historic vineyards aged between 50 and 60 years. The prestige of this label is further confirmed by exceptional accolades, such as 93 points from James Suckling and the 4 Vines award from the Vitae AIS guide.

The cellar is part of the history of the Verona region and the path that led to its creation sheds light on the lives of people who are used to making courageous choices.
Indeed, Roberta’s parents turned their backs on the businesses of their respective families to pursue together the dream of a wine production company, investing their bodies and souls in the endeavour. Roberto’s courage and imagination were matched by Alberta’s elegance and determination as together, from the 1980s onward, they brought their wines to an appreciative public, first in the Verona region and later in broader international forums, at the same time becoming interpreters and pioneers of the modern concept of hospitality, taking real pleasure in generously welcoming to the cellar guests who wanted to experience it first hand and get to know their faces.
The enterprise and enthusiasm of the parents have guided important choices in their daughter’s life. Having grown up in the countryside, on completion of her classical studies in Verona, Roberta embarked on a career as a lawyer before finding herself dreaming more and more of the life of the winemaker, a path that she too decided to follow. Her passion for wine and everything associated with it ran through her blood and influenced her personal choices in terms of style and ethics. Read more
