Description

What kind of wine it is

The Riesling Grand Cru Schoenenbourg from Domaine Bott-Geyl is a still white wine of great character, produced in Alsace exclusively from Riesling grapes. A true expression of the Alsace Grand Cru, it appears in the glass with a bright yellow hue. The bouquet combines notes of green fig, lime and botanicals with a pronounced hint of flint. On the palate, it is broad and dense, with fresh hints of green apple, pear and citrus, finishing with a very long finish that harmoniously blends power and grace.

Where it comes from

The roots of this wine lie in the heart of Alsace, in the commune of Kientzheim. The vines grow on steep slopes at an altitude between two hundred and three hundred metres. The excellent south and south-west exposure is enhanced by a soil rich in granite sands, a fundamental element that gives the sip a clear mineral tension. Domaine Bott-Geyl has been tending these lands since 1795, always working with great care for the preservation of the terroir.

How it is produced

The vineyard is managed according to strict biodynamic principles to support the natural ecosystem. The wine benefits from a resting period of two or three years before reaching its peak expression, ensuring an ageing potential that can extend up to twenty years.

History and Curiosities

Since 1795, the Bott-Geyl family has been cultivating vines in Alsace, carrying on a tradition that finds its highest expression in this Riesling Grand Cru. To preserve the authenticity of the terroir, the estate follows the strict principles of biodynamics, enhancing the vineyards rooted on steep slopes characterised by granitic sands. Awarded 97 points by Vinous, this elegant white is designed to evolve over time: it requires two or three years of ageing before revealing its deepest character, offering an ageing potential that can reach up to twenty years.

Jean-Christophe Bott is the heir to a family tradition dating back to 1795, when his ancestor, Jean-Martin Geyl, tended the vineyards and made wine. Jean-Christophe Bott has been in charge of Domaine Bott-Geyl since 1993 and converted the vineyards to organic in 2000 and biodynamic in 2002.

In the vineyards, he concentrates on low yields and in the cellars, he oversees winemaking in the most natural and minimalist way possible.

The art combines tradition and modernity, perpetuating the vineyard for the next generations and protecting its ecology.

Today, the company cultivates 15 hectares of vines, including 6 Grands Crus and 4 Lieux-dits.
