It is an ancient vine, among the first to appear in Italy, whose introduction is presumably due to the arrival of the first Greek colonies dating back to the 7th century BC, a typical origin for the vineyards of the South. The history of the vine is associated with that of the Nerelli, which is very similar and with which it also shares the most interesting geographical area, so much so that it is considered to have been used in antiquity for the production of noble and aristocratic Mamertinum that the Romans particularly appreciated In such occasions as the victory that allowed Julius Caesar to conquer all of Gaul. His immense quality was already known, and beyond Marmetinum he was almost certainly employed for another great past, the Zancle. In its original production area, this ancient air can be breathed in some secular vineyards, with strains dating back hundreds of years. In the past, the vine was much more cultivated, indicating once again its use for the production of ancient wines. |

Leaf: medium, orbicular, trilobata (often notice the lower lobes just mentioned); Pectoral breast with narrow V; Lateral veins above V open or in lira; Lower missing lateral sinuses, generally, if present, are quite open V; Marked lobes, planes; Corner at the top of the acute terminal lobes; Greenish-darker top page, smooth, matt, glabra leaf; Bottom page of light green, glabra. Green, upper and lower nerves; Lower ribs of 1st and 2nd order glabrous; Regular, pronounced teeth; At margins on one side concave and on the other convex.
Bunch: medium, about 18 cm long, pyramidal with a wing, spatula; Visible peduncle, herbaceous, thin; Long, green pedicel; Little noticeable, green; Medium brush, pink, difficult to separate from the acina.
Acino: medium, intermediate, between the ellipsoid and the obovoid, closer to the latter, with a regular cross section (circular); Black-bluish skin, regularly distributed, slightly prune, of medium consistency; Non-persistent navel; Juicy and soft flesh, with a simple and thin taste, colorless juice. |
