Areas of cultivation This vine is spread mainly on the hills of the provinces of Piacenza, Parma and Oltrepò Pavese.
History In classical ampelographs, the citation "Candia malvasia" is rare, while it is more common to find a "mosquito malvasia". Quoted by Bramieri (1818) as "a bunch of spaghetti clusters", from Rovasenda (1877) as "Malvasia cultivated in Alexandria, similar to Asti, which is in Muscat flavor", and also by Molon (1906) describing it Like a "malvasia of Alexandria".
Ampelographic features Leaf: medium size, pentagonal, pentalobata; Petiolar breast at V-U tendency to lira; Deep upper and lower limbs; Lower lateral limbs in lira, little marked; Upper page glabra, green, slightly glossy; A slightly velvety underside, light green color, slightly bent limb, smooth flat planes and markings; Corner at the top of the almost straight terminal lobes; Sharp, irregular teeth, characteristic of the muscat; I-II ribs fairly protruding below, yellowish green on top, velvety, greener and lighter green to the base on the bottom. Bunch: size more than medium, spatula, elongated, pyramidal, very winged, almost composed; Long peduncle, visible, half-legged, green. Acino: medium (diameter mm 15,5), spheroid, regular, persistent and very obvious navel; Regular cross section; Pruinous peel, opalescent golden yellow color characteristic of the muscles, thick, consistent; Juicy, melted pulp, pleasing flavor of muscat; Colorless juice; Middle pedicels, green with green, verrucous, evident; Medium brush, yellow.
Characteristics of the wine obtained from this grape variety Light straw-yellow wine, with delicate fresh fruit scents and good tasting flavor. It is particularly used in grain and is also suitable for sparkling.
Notes Resistance to diseases: subject to sagging and somewhat to the bruising of the bones.
