L'Excellence is produced from very old vines planted on the best plots in the estate. The shallowness of ‎the soil means that the vines have to burrow deep for their nutrients, to the bed rock which, in these plots, is ‎made of gneiss and orthogneiss, metamorphic rocks with a high mineral content.‎
