Description
Type of wine
The Kerner Karneid by Franz Gojer is a still white wine with the Alto Adige Denominazione di Origine Controllata designation, featuring an intense aromatic profile. It is an authentic expression of the Kerner grape variety, vinified with two harvest periods and refined through decantation. On the nose, it offers a fruity bouquet where vibrant notes of peach and citrus emerge, enriched by a spicy touch of nutmeg. On the palate, it reveals a medium body and a distinctly linear mouthfeel, supported by a zesty freshness that enhances its structure. The finish is distinguished by a persistent fruity aftertaste, a characteristic that makes it ideal as an aperitif and capable of harmoniously accompanying fresh salads, vegetarian dishes and flavourful recipes based on grilled fish.
Where it comes from
This white wine originates from the vineyards of Cornedo all’Isarco, on the north-western slopes of Alto Adige. The Kerner vines grow at an altitude between 550 and 600 metres, ensuring optimal freshness and acidity. The soil features a sandy terrain originating from the breakdown of porphyritic rocks, enriched with sediments of granite, basalt and gneiss from the glacial era. This complex geological matrix imparts a distinct minerality and a taut flavour profile to the palate, faithfully reflecting its mountainous territory of origin.
How it is produced
The production is distinguished by a double harvest period: an initial early harvest aimed at preserving acidity and freshness, followed by a late harvest to enrich the body and intensity of the aromas. In the cellar, the grapes undergo delicate gravity-flow processing to limit mechanical stress before pressing. This is followed by a natural sedimentation of the must at low temperatures, preceding a slow and strictly controlled fermentation, aimed at enhancing the purity of the fruit. Finally, the wine is refined through a slow natural decantation until spring, an essential step to stabilise its structure and define its elegance.
History and Curiosities
The Franz Gojer Kerner Karneid expresses the authentic vocation of an independent South Tyrolean winemaker, originating from sandy and porphyritic soils rich in glacial sediments in Cornedo all’Isarco. Its complex personality takes shape through a double harvest period, capable of combining the vibrant freshness of the early harvest with the intense aromas of the late one. In the cellar, the grapes benefit from delicate gravity processing and strictly controlled fermentation, culminating in a slow spring decantation that seals its elegance.
