Description

What kind of wine it is

Troy Chardonnay Riserva from Cantina Tramin is an elegant still white wine that fully expresses the soul of Alto Adige. Created to enhance Chardonnay, it appears in the glass with an intense golden yellow colour. On the palate, it stands out for its creamy texture and pronounced saline minerality, while the aromatic profile reveals citrus notes, ripe tropical fruit, chamomile and a hint of almond, culminating in a very long and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from vineyards located in the municipalities of Tramin and Söll, at an altitude between 500 and 550 metres. The vines sink their roots into soils composed of calcareous gravel and clay, ideal for imparting excellent aromatic definition. The climate is characterised by a marked temperature range between the mild Mediterranean-influenced days and the cold nights, refreshed by mountain winds that give the wine a vibrant Alpine freshness.

How it is produced

After the manual autumn harvest, the whole bunches undergo gentle pressing. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in wooden barrels, followed by eleven months of ageing on the lees in the same containers. The wine then continues to rest in stainless steel for about twenty-two months before bottling. The absence of filtration preserves an authentic and pure profile, making this wine suitable even for those following a vegan diet.

History and Curiosities

Troy, a term meaning “path”, embodies the prestigious journey of research undertaken by Cantina Tramin, an outstanding establishment founded in 1898. This iconic Chardonnay Riserva originates from the prized vineyards of Sella (Söll), showcasing the Alpine terroir with utmost elegance. Under the careful guidance of oenologist Willi Stürz, artisanal craftsmanship and lengthy ageing bestow the wine with a majestic creamy texture. Already celebrated with the Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso and the Cinque Grappoli, Troy offers the palate a vibrant and unforgettable saline minerality.

In a time of hardship for Alto Adige’s wine producers, Christian Schrott, parish priest of Tramin and later Member of the Austrian Parliament, founded our cooperative in 1898 in order to protect the livelihood and future of the wine producers from this mountain area. Thanks to the strength of this union, Cantina Tramin has become one of Alto Adige’s most respected cooperatives and an example recognized all over the world.

Today, we are 160 families tending approximately 270 hectares of vineyards. We pride ourselves on the fact that each bottle is the quintessence of our philosophy of life and work: accuracy, commitment, trust and creativity.
