Description
What kind of wine it is
Tramin Roen Gewurztraminer Late Harvest is a sweet wine produced by Tramin in the Alto Adige region. Created from a harmonious blend of Gewurztraminer and Riesling, its profile is deeply enriched by the development of noble rot. On the nose, it offers intense notes of honey, exotic fruit, dried apricot, rose and vanilla. On the palate, it reveals a seductive, velvety sweetness, culminating in a spicy finish that makes it a magnificent meditation wine. Maturation in French oak barrels imparts great persistence.
Where it comes from
The grapes grow in the vineyards of Sella, a hamlet of Termeno. The vines are situated between 300 and 500 metres above sea level on gravelly, calcareous and clayey soil, which is essential for enhancing aromatic concentration. The area is characterised by significant temperature variations, where warm Mediterranean days alternate with nights cooled by mountain breezes. This microclimate ensures slow ripening and creates the ideal environment for the development of Botrytis cinerea, responsible for the unmistakable character of this dessert wine.
How it is produced
The process begins with a late harvest, leaving the bunches to wither on the vine to maximise aroma through noble rot. After maceration, a gentle pressing follows to extract and preserve the purity of the must. Fermentation and ageing take place in small French oak barrels for one year, followed by a final period of rest in the bottle. This meticulous process gives the wine a vivid golden yellow colour, accompanied by a long and intense finish on the palate.
History and Curiosities
The Roen from Cantina Tramin is a sublime meditation wine born in the prized vineyards of Sella. This exceptional Gewurztraminer is the result of a late winter harvest that encourages withering on the vine and the development of noble rot, concentrating sugars and intoxicating aromas. A year’s ageing in French oak barriques bestows the palate with a velvety, lively and elegant sweetness. The 2024 vintage, awarded 93 points by James Suckling, stands out for its refined spicy finish, an expression of the pure excellence of Alto Adige.
