Description
What kind of wine it is
The Merus Gewurztraminer by Tiefenbrunner is a still white wine with a bright yellow colour and golden highlights. An expression of the Alto Adige denomination, it stands out for its dry style and harmonious structure. Made from Gewürztraminer grapes, it releases a deep bouquet with aromas of candied fruit and ripe grapes. The aroma is enriched with hints of honey, sage, rose petals and oriental spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, robust and boasts a high aromatic persistence, with a long, spicy finish, ideal for accompanying Asian dishes, lobster or foie gras pâté.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the hillside vineyards of Cortaccia and Niclara, in the province of Bolzano, tended by Tiefenbrunner. The vines benefit from a south-southwest exposure, growing at an altitude between 260 and 470 metres. The complexity of the sip is linked to the composition of the soils: calcareous gravel from moraine sediments in Niclara and clay soil in Cortaccia. Trained using the pergola and Guyot methods, the plants offer balanced yields that concentrate the aromas, delivering in the glass the authentic precision of the Alpine territory.
How it is produced
In the cellar, the process aims to enhance the typicality of the grape variety. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, preserving the integrity of the aromas and the varietal freshness of the Gewürztraminer. Afterwards, the wine undergoes ageing on fine lees for four months. This technique consolidates the structure and harmony, ensuring a perfect balance of flavour without altering the dry profile. The result is a white wine of remarkable intensity, able to combine volume and finesse in a consistent and satisfying finish.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1848, the historic Tiefenbrunner Estate is now run by the fifth generation of the family. From this long tradition comes the Merus Gewürztraminer 2024, a refined Alto Adige DOC from the sunny slopes between Cortaccia and Niclara. Situated at up to 470 metres above sea level, the vineyards yield grapes of rare intensity. Thanks to careful fermentation in steel and valuable maturation on fine lees, this white wine reveals an intoxicating charm, capable of evolving beautifully in the bottle for a period of three to five years.
