Description
What kind of wine it is
The Terlano Gewurztraminer Tradition from Cantina Terlano is an aromatic still white wine with the Alto Adige controlled designation of origin. Made from Gewürztraminer grapes, this wine, with its bright straw yellow colour, is vinified and matured in steel. Its exotic aromatic profile opens with intense notes of lychee, mango and rose petals, complemented by hints of honeysuckle and sweet spices. On the palate, it expresses perfect balance, where lively fruity freshness meets clear mineral notes, culminating in a rounded and persistent aftertaste.
Where it comes from
The vineyards stretch across the steep slopes of Alto Adige, at an ideal meeting point between the Alpine climate and mild Mediterranean influences. The vines grow between 270 and 450 metres above sea level, enjoying optimal southern exposure. This microclimate encourages slow and steady ripening, enhanced by significant temperature variations and the natural ventilation of the Föhn and Ora del Garda winds. The soil, composed of sand and stones, is characterised by a marked presence of porphyry, a fundamental geological component that gives the wine its distinctive mineral texture.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with meticulous manual harvesting, aimed at selecting only the best bunches. After gentle whole-bunch pressing and natural clarification of the must, fermentation takes place slowly at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the aromas. The wine then matures for several months on fine lees in steel vats, a stage that enhances its softness and structure, while maintaining impeccable harmony with the lively acidity that distinguishes it.
History and Curiosities
Cantina Terlano, a symbol of excellence founded in 1893, masterfully signs this Gewürztraminer I Classici, a grape variety that takes its name from the village of Termeno, in the Lower Adige. The 2025 manual harvest, which began at the end of August, overcame the challenges of a humid September thanks to a meticulous selection of top-quality grapes. This profound dedication is reflected in a production of 110,000 bottles which, since 1956, has embodied the South Tyrolean vocation, offering an elegant exotic aromatic profile celebrated internationally.
