Description

What kind of wine it is

Montalbera Calypsos Derthona Timorasso is a still white wine with a marked personality, able to interpret the controlled designation of origin of the Colli Tortonesi with absolute precision. In the glass, its straw-yellow hue introduces an intense aromatic profile, where clear notes of quince, almond and hazelnut emerge, enriched by distinctive mineral nuances of graphite and flint. The palate is soft and balanced, supported by good structure and a long-lasting finish, promising remarkable evolution over time. It pairs perfectly with medium-aged cheeses and fish-based dishes.

Where it comes from

This expression of Timorasso grapes originates in Piedmont, in the Colli Tortonesi, a territory that unequivocally defines the character of Derthona. The Montalbera vineyards take root in clay and limestone soils, a geological matrix that imparts a structured character and a mineral tone to the wine. The winery operates between the areas of Monferrato and the Langhe, cultivating the slopes with great attention to the different exposures. The characteristics of the land provide a recognisable territorial identity, shaping a white wine of profound consistency.

How it is produced

The process begins with careful harvesting of the bunches at optimal ripeness to ensure the integrity of the fruit. The process continues with fermentation in steel tanks, an essential choice to preserve the freshness of the grape variety. The subsequent ageing in steel takes place without the use of barrels, allowing the wine to develop a harmonious balance of flavour and to maintain its primary aromas intact. The technical approach favours clarity and aromatic definition, resulting in a satisfying tasting experience that stands out for its consistency and excellent longevity.

History and Curiosities

Founded at the beginning of the twentieth century between the Langhe and Monferrato, Montalbera celebrates Piedmontese tradition through Calypsos Derthona Timorasso. Under the expert guidance of oenologist Nino Falcone, the estate cultivates its hillside vineyards on prized clay and limestone soils. From this synergy arises an authentic and refined expression of the DOC Colli Tortonesi, capable of conveying the profound bond with the land. A glass that unites a century of history with excellence in production, offering the elegant taste of a generous nature.

The Montalbera Winery was founded at the beginning of the 20th century in an area located in the townships of Grana, Castagnole Monferrato, and Montemagno.

In the mid-1980s, the Morando family began expanding their property by purchasing land in adjacent territories and planting it with new grapevines, prevalently Ruchè; they continue to grow their landholdings. Today, a continuous stretch of vineyard-covered land encircles the winery. The vineyards are planted entirely on hillsides, giving the vines different expositions and soil, from clay to limestone.

A unique aspect that has always distinguished Montalbera in the Piedmontese winemaking landscape is that the winery sits astride two of the region’s most important winemaking zones: the Monferrato and the Langhe.
