Description

What kind of wine it is

Franz Haas Petit Manseng is a still white wine with a straw yellow colour, an authentic expression of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Made from Petit Manseng grapes, it originates in the heart of the Vigneti delle Dolomiti denomination. On the nose, it reveals a fruity and intense bouquet, where citrus and yellow fruit aromas blend with mineral hints, notes of dried fruit and delicate spices. On the palate, it offers a precise and savoury sip, supported by a well-defined structure. The vibrant acidity provides immediate freshness and gives the wine an excellent ageing potential, allowing it to evolve for several years.

Where it comes from

The vineyards thrive in hilly areas at an altitude between 220 and 320 metres above sea level. The choice of the Guyot training system, combined with low yields per hectare, ensures perfect phenolic development of the grapes. The vines sink their roots into alluvial soils, imparting a clear savoury and territorial character to the wine. The entire production process is overseen by Franz Haas at the Montagna estate, where the distinctive character of this grape variety, characterised by small berries and thick skins, is carefully enhanced.

How it is produced

To give greater depth and complexity, the must is fermented entirely in barrels. Maturation then continues with a slow ageing in barrels for about ten months, followed by a period of rest in the cellar before release. The result is a dry and taut sip, with formidable gastronomic versatility. Recommended at a temperature of around 12°C, this white wine harmoniously balances Asian cuisine and spicy dishes. Its lively acidity also makes it ideal to accompany first courses with bottarga, flavourful cheeses and fish-based recipes.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1880 in South Tyrol, the historic Franz Haas winery produces this exceptional single-varietal Petit Manseng, a true gem among the Dolomiti IGT vineyards. Highly acclaimed, with 97 points from Luca Maroni and 91 from James Suckling, this extraordinary white wine expresses a unique and vibrant personality. Careful fermentation and elegant barrique ageing for ten months enhance its intensity and longevity, while the innovative screw cap preserves the meticulous work of oenologist Stefano Tiefenthaler, ensuring maximum freshness in every glass.

Since the beginning, we work to express in the best possible way the quality of the wines we produce. The winery was founded in 1880 and has been passed down through eight generations to the first-born child of the family, who has the honour and responsibility of carrying the same name, Franz.

Franz Haas is not just a winery, it is not just a brand. Franz Haas is a man, a family who has been producing wine for seven generations, and for seven generations has put into its wines the same philosophy of life: the constant and endless pursuit of perfection. Each Franz Haas with his own touch and style.

According to Franz Haas, science and calculations are indeed necessary to obtain superb wines, but it is love, passion, and determination that are essential to give them character and complexity.

It takes art, the one you have in your blood, a loving creative genius, like the one of Franz Haas VII, who today leads the winery with his team.
