Description

What kind of wine it is

The Ribolla Gialla from Torre Rosazza is a still white wine that captures the essence of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Made from Ribolla Gialla grapes in the Friuli Colli Orientali area, it boasts a fresh and mineral profile. On the nose, it reveals a floral and clear bouquet, enriched with hints of melon and lively citrus notes. On the palate, it is soft and savoury, supported by a vibrant acidity that defines an agile and balanced structure. Its pronounced lightness makes it the ideal companion for seafood starters and vegetarian dishes, offering a pleasantly dry finish.

Where it comes from

This wine is produced in Oleis di Manzano, in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The vines grow on steep terraced slopes that require the manual care typical of heroic viticulture. The soils, of ancient Eocene origin and characterised by marl and sandstone, impart an enveloping mineral component to the sip. The local microclimate benefits from the meeting of cool Alpine currents and mild Mediterranean influences, encouraging a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes, which enhances the full aromatic spectrum of the variety.

How it is produced

The production process begins with a manual harvest, followed by destemming and gentle pressing of the grapes. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, a technical choice that preserves the integrity and freshness of the fruit. Afterwards, the wine undergoes ageing on the lees for about four months, during which it acquires a subtle creaminess and harmonious balance. This process enhances the citrus and mineral notes, offering a dry and persistent sip of great clarity and elegance.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1974, Torre Rosazza enhances the historic Ribolla Gialla through heroic viticulture on steep terraced slopes. In the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, the manual harvest reflects a deep respect for the land, ensuring grapes of exceptional purity. Thanks to the guidance of expert oenologists, this artisanal dedication translates into a white wine of international prestige, capable of winning the coveted Platinum Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards for its unrivalled quality and profound fidelity to Friulian tradition.

We have always connected with the entire Friuli region, not just with the hills where we live. Friuli is a borderland. An outpost of modernity. Italian and Central European. A crossroads of cultures and trade. A meeting point for peoples and traditions. Many identities, a single soul.

In the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and especially in Torre Rosazza, the growing of grapevines has a very ancient history. Already known in Roman times, grapes were also grown in the Middle Ages, along with other crops such as olives and grains. In those years, wine was a commodity or a bargaining chip that demonstrated a family’s wealth.

Noble elegance. The history of Torre Rosazza has been tied to the Antonini family, part of the Udine nobility, since the 1600s. Already the lords of the agricultural estate, the Antonini restored the medieval tower and built the villa that became their home in the hills: Turris Rosacea.

After the Antonini, Torre Rosazza passed to the De Marchi family. But more than any other event, the biggest mark on its history was left by the two World Wars. After the Battle of Caporetto, the estate came under Austrian control before returning to Italy at the end of the war. During the World War II it was the scene of fighting between the German occupation army and the Italian Resistance.
