Description
What kind of wine it is
Torre Rosazza's Pinot Grigio is a still white wine that faithfully reflects the character of the Friuli Colli Orientali. Made from Pinot Grigio grapes, it is vinified in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature to preserve the freshness and aromatic precision of the fruit. After resting on the lees, the wine appears in the glass with a straw yellow colour enriched by warm golden highlights, while the bouquet reveals pronounced floral aromas intertwined with clear notes of apple and ripe pear. On the palate, it is dry, smooth and enveloping, supported by a delicate acidity that ensures balance and an elegant persistence.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located on the hills of Manzano, in the hamlet of Oleis, arranged on steep terraces situated between 130 and 170 metres above sea level, where all work is carried out strictly by hand. The soil consists of the typical Friulian ponca, a sedimentary layering of clay marl and sandstone that ensures excellent water retention and imparts a distinct mineral character to the grapes. The local microclimate benefits from the constant ventilation of the Bora and Adriatic currents, while the marked daily temperature variations encourage the development of intense aromas, shaping a deep and consistent varietal profile.
How it is produced
Trained using the Guyot system to ensure low yields, the vines produce fruit of great concentration. The bunches undergo a gentle pressing with immediate separation of the skins, followed by white vinification in stainless steel at a controlled temperature. The wine matures on the lees for about six months, an essential step to increase volume and stability on the palate. The production cycle concludes with a two-month rest in the bottle, resulting in a dynamic, harmonious and thoroughly satisfying sip.
History and Curiosities
Originally from France as a mutation of Pinot Noir, this grape variety finds its finest expression among the steep Friulian terraces of Oleis di Manzano. Since 1974, Torre Rosazza has carefully tended these vineyards by hand, cultivated on Eocene marl, resulting in a Friuli Colli Orientali DOC with a pronounced mineral character. Highly acclaimed by critics and boasting 92 points from James Suckling for the 2024 vintage, this label enchants with its elegant floral aromas and notes of ripe pear. An artisanal dedication that ensures a smooth and enveloping sip, a pure expression of the region.

In the Colli Orientali del Friuli, and especially in Torre Rosazza, the growing of grapevines has a very ancient history. Already known in Roman times, grapes were also grown in the Middle Ages, along with other crops such as olives and grains. In those years, wine was a commodity or a bargaining chip that demonstrated a family’s wealth.
Noble elegance. The history of Torre Rosazza has been tied to the Antonini family, part of the Udine nobility, since the 1600s. Already the lords of the agricultural estate, the Antonini restored the medieval tower and built the villa that became their home in the hills: Turris Rosacea.
After the Antonini, Torre Rosazza passed to the De Marchi family. But more than any other event, the biggest mark on its history was left by the two World Wars. After the Battle of Caporetto, the estate came under Austrian control before returning to Italy at the end of the war. During the World War II it was the scene of fighting between the German occupation army and the Italian Resistance. Read more
