Description
What kind of wine it is
S’Elegas is a still white wine, an authentic expression of the Nuragus grape variety, crafted by Argiolas. This wine belongs to the Nuragus di Cagliari denomination, offering a dry, fresh and pleasantly harmonious aromatic profile. On the nose, it delivers fruity and fragrant aromas, enriched with delicate hints of pear, hay and slightly balsamic nuances. The palate is full, smooth and rich, characterised by a balanced structure that finishes with a slightly bitter aftertaste, typical and distinctive of the variety.
Where it comes from
The origin of this white wine is Sardinia, in the areas between the provinces of Cagliari and Oristano, historic cradles of the Nuragus di Cagliari denomination. The vines take root in calcareous-marl soils, essential for giving the wine balance and a pleasant sensation of fullness on the palate. Argiolas manages its vineyards through careful geolocated agronomic monitoring, collecting meteorological data to protect the health of the plants in real time. From this rigorous approach comes a label with a brilliant straw yellow colour, capable of faithfully reflecting the island’s agricultural vocation.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a gentle crushing and pressing using pneumatic presses, followed by a slow natural settling of the must. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature for about eighteen days, an essential practice to preserve the varietal freshness and aromatic purity of Nuragus. The wine then rests under inert gas to prevent oxidation, concluding the production cycle with an ageing period of about two months. This meticulous process produces a juicy white, perfect for pairing with grilled shellfish, seafood starters, soft cheeses and classic Mediterranean recipes.

From their grand old man, a monument to an extraordinary entrepreneurial history, they have picked up the stubbornness and sense of challenge to the world, the simple and authentic joy of harvesting and crushing, the passion that springs from the bubbling musts and the effervescent young wines, the personality that defines the tenacious and mature wines, as soft as the limestone in which their roots are sunk, perfumed and savoury like the sea, long-lived like Sardinians.
In 1979 Antonio Argiolas, an established local entrepreneur, went to Argentina and California. These travels were a source of inspiration for him, and represented the beginning of a revolution; in fact these showed him the needs to overcome the parcelling out the countryside, which was widespread on the island, and to employ technologically advanced machines to work larger expanses of land under single ownership.
So, he acquired the lands of Selegas-Sa Tanca and Susini, the Winery’s largest estates. These are the places that Argiolas wine speak of, emblems of the strength, courage and farsightedness of the idea. Read more
