Description

What kind of wine it is

Tornatore Etna Bianco is a white wine made from Carricante grapes that faithfully reflects the essence of the Etna region. The aromatic bouquet is clear, characterised by notes of green apple, white peach and aromatic herbs. On the palate, a vibrant freshness and pronounced minerality emerge, with a taut and harmonious finish. This marked savouriness pairs perfectly with shellfish and seafood, and also balances well with white meats and medium-aged cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of the volcano. Tornatore cultivates its vineyards on deep volcanic soils rich in minerals. The constant influence of the Mediterranean climate encourages balanced ripening of the bunches, imparting the authentic volcanic character of the region to the glass. This natural synergy creates a strong territorial identity, giving the wine a defined, elegant flavour profile with a pronounced savoury note.

How it is produced

After a careful manual harvest, the bunches are destemmed and gently pressed. The must is cold-settled and ferments at a controlled temperature to preserve the varietal aromas. This is followed by a period of about three months on the fine lees, which is essential to enhance the structure and texture on the palate. The final ageing takes place in steel and cement tanks, a deliberate choice that excludes the use of barrels to preserve the pure mineral vibrancy, following a fully sustainable and organic approach.

History and Curiosities

A product of the expertise of Cantine Tornatore, active in Castiglione di Sicilia since 1865, this elegant Etna Bianco DOC celebrates an exceptional volcanic terroir. Under the guidance of oenologist Angelo Di Grazia, the wine, made from hand-picked grapes, matures in steel and concrete tanks to preserve clear and vibrant aromas. The 2024 vintage boasts organic and sustainable certification, as well as the prestigious score of 90/100 awarded by James Suckling. On the palate, it is intensely fresh and mineral, demonstrating a deep connection with nature and tradition.

Founded in 1865 by Francesco Tornatore’s great-grandfather, the winery has carried on a winemaking tradition rooted in the fertile lands of Etna for more than 150 years. In 1910 grandfather Giuseppe consolidated the family business by building a palmento in contrada Piano Fiera, marking the beginning of an expansion that would encompass other valuable land on Etna’s northern slope. Our deep knowledge of the land, enriched by decades of experience and passed from generation to generation, allows us today to look to the future with the certainty of those who have always known how to respect the land and its traditions, continuing our commitment to excellence and innovation in the world of wine.
