Description

What kind of wine it is

Etna Bianco by Terre Nere is a still organic wine that expresses the essence of the Etna region through a blend of Carricante, Catarratto, Grecanico and Minnella grapes. On the nose, it reveals elegant notes of white flowers, linden, citrus and green apple. On the palate, it is dry and juicy, supported by a lively freshness and a deep mineral vein. The silky texture perfectly balances the agility on the palate, offering a harmonious and bright drink, ideal for enhancing light starters, shellfish and refined seafood dishes.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the northern slope of Mount Etna, from soils composed of the characteristic black earth that imparts a pronounced volcanic minerality to the glass. The vineyards are cultivated between six hundred and nine hundred metres above sea level, in the municipalities of Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia. The intense mountain temperature variations favour a clear and precise aromatic development. The grape selection takes place in three renowned crus, Guardiola, Calderara and Feudo di Mezzo, whose micro-terroirs define a vertical character, strongly distinctive and rooted in the unique climate of the area.

How it is produced

The rigour of meticulous organic farming guides the harvest, which takes place in the first ten days of October. The white vinification begins with gentle pressing and subsequent static cold settling of the must. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, preserving the delicate original aromatic profile. The wine then matures through ageing in steel for at least five months, a technique that maintains its innate lively taste and delivers a dry, clean and vibrantly pure profile.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 2002 by Marc de Grazia, Tenuta delle Terre Nere is located on the northern slope of Mount Etna, enhancing old vineyards in volcanic micro-territories comparable to those of Burgundy. The elegant Etna Bianco was first produced in 2005 from historic native grapes grown in the crus of Guardiola, Calderara and Feudo di Mezzo, which were once interspersed with rows of red grapes. Entirely dedicated to organic farming, the winery expresses in the glass the unmistakable minerality of that precious “black earth” from which its profound winemaking history originates.

Tenuta delle Terre Nere is located on the northern slope of the Etna volcano. The wines are produced from vineyards in three crus: Guardiola, Calderara and Feudo di Mezzo. The extremely special soil and climate conditions, together with the high altitude, make these wines similar to Burgundy or Barolo. Since the 2004 vintage, the company has been self-sufficient, and the grapes are vinified in the new cellars. The winery has been converting to organic farming since 2007. It has been officially certified since the 2010 vintage. Read more
