Description

What kind of wine is it

Roland Lavantureux Chablis is a still white wine that precisely expresses the character of the French region. Made exclusively from Chardonnay, this wine stands out for its deep stylistic consistency within the Chablis area. In the glass, it displays a golden straw yellow colour, hinting at an aromatic profile where floral scents, delicate notes of tea and hints of green apple and lime stand out. On the palate, it is well balanced, supported by a taut acidity that enhances its mineral savouriness and leads to a persistent finish with subtle hints of walnut.

Where does it come from

This Chablis by Roland Lavantureux originates from the northernmost area of Burgundy, a historic region situated around the town of the same name. The vineyards stretch along the banks of the River Serein, benefiting from a unique microclimate. This geographical context is essential to ensure the aromatic purity that characterises Chardonnay, the only grape variety permitted in this area. The soil composition and the exposure of the vines give the grapes a balanced ripening, resulting in a persistent territorial expression in the glass.

How is it produced

The production process is based on a combined ageing aimed at enhancing the qualities of the grape variety. Part of the wine rests in stainless steel tanks, a technical choice essential to preserve the acidic tension and the clarity of the fruity aromas. The remaining part matures in barrels, a stage that imparts a more complex structure and greater breadth of flavour. This careful management allows for a vibrant minerality and a firm balance, without ever overpowering the primary elegance of the grapes.

History and Curiosities

Roland Lavantureux's Chablis originates from a family estate dating back to the 17th century. First bottled in 1979, this prestigious pure Chardonnay is expertly matured in both steel and wood, developing unparalleled elegance. The 2022 vintage boasts remarkable ageing potential, estimated between five and ten years, and has been awarded 90 points by Vinous. Its profound minerality and fruity notes offer a fresh and savoury sip, perfectly expressing the authentic Burgundy terroir.

From this winery
Since the 17th century, the land, the vines and the passion have been passed down from generation to generation. Marine and Gervais, our paternal grandparents, sold the estate's wines in Feuillette (132-litre barrels, typical of Chablis) in Auxerre and Paris.

Roland was the first to bottle the wines in 1979. It was at this point that he gave the estate its name. Joined by Brigitte, our parents then expanded the estate to 20 hectares and developed bottle sales in France and abroad.
